Totally Twisted

So once again I was surfing the net looking for hairstyles to try out on my TWA. All last week I wore puffs or a curly fro but this week I needed something new. There isn't much I can do with my hair at the moment because it is so short but I'm willing to try anything once. So the style I chose this time is similar to a previous style I did before. I did two strand twists all over my head except on the left side of my head, this is where I flat twisted my hair diagonally and then 2 strand twisted the ends.

Products Used:
My conditioner Mix-- VO5 Moisture Milks Passion Fruit Smoothie with Water
My Shea Butter Mix
IC Fantasia Gel- The pink one
Castor Oil to seal

How I achieved this style:

First I saturated my hair with my conditioner mix then I divided my hair into several sections, the only section I actually parted out was the left side for the flat twists.

I first started on the right side. I re-spritzed my hair with my conditioner mix the applied some IC fantasia gel to my hair and started to 2 strand twist my hair.

The next section I did was the front, I 2 strand twisted my hair towards the front using the same products I used on the right side. Next I moved on to the left side of my hair, I divided my hair into sections and then started to flat twist my hair and then 2 strand twisted the ends. My hair was starting to get a little dry so I re-spritzed my hair, my hair sucks up water.

Now it was time to finally tackle the back of my head, I usually get tired around this section and get a little lazy and getting sloppy with my twists but these actually came out nice.

Finished Hair Style Photos, feel free to leave comments, questions and etc.

Yay!! Today marks my 1 month post Big Chop

As the title says today March 15, 2010 is the 1 month mark since I decided to do the big chop. I am still in love with my TWA. I still get some friends that ask why I cut my hair and now what do I plan to do. Well I plan to let my hair grow and I cut my hair because the 2 textures were not whats up anymore and it was time to get rid of my damaged ends. Not going to do a length check yet because it's only been a month and I really want something to celebrate in a few months. Here are some pictures from February 15, 2010 and today.

The first picture of each angle is from February 15. Not much growth as far as I can see but my hair is definitely looking more healthy and I definitely got rid of most of those straight ends, till have a few but not many left.

Operation grow part 1

So I have been examining my hair and once again staring me in my face is my diminishing nape line. I'm pretty this is do to all the ponytails I used to wear back in the relaxer days and the fact that 90% of the time my beautician started my touch-ups in the back of my hair. So my hair was stressed from the ponytails and then from over processing. Well now is the time to take my hair back and I am starting a campaign to regrow my nape line. At the moment I have no idea what I'm going to do or use for the first few weeks I am going to be experimenting but I do know I am going to definitely not going to add any undue stress on my nape line.

For the people following this blog I want to say thanks for following and commenting. I love the feedback and support. Also if anyone has any tips, suggestions, etc about regrowing my nape line feel free to leave me a comment. I'm still very new to this natural hair care life so all suggestions are welcome.

TIA, Crystal

Ode to my curlie Q

So I pulled my hair into a a puff an went on my way to church and when I returned home while in the washroom I caught a quick glance at this strand of hair that had slipped down and what did I see.

I was just commenting how I'm starting to see more and more curls everyday and here is a relatively long one with nice definition that I was actually able to capture wit my camera.

So ofcourse I had to post the pictures. Don't mind me I am just finding this journey to be an amazing one.

Puff-A-Licious

My hair is so soft after the avocado conditioner treatment. I didn't do anything special to my hair just a simple puff added some more of my shea butter mix to my hair and of course my Africa's Best Herbal oil. I'm trying to get the back of my hair to grow back in because it looking a little patchy in the back so I'm going to continue to monitor my hair growth there as well as my overall growth.

How I make my puff is really simple and I learned from Youtube. Have I said how much I love the internet and Youtube. BTW fell free to subscribe to my channel occasionally I make videos about my hair and soon to be other randomness. Peachez8208  <<---- link!!!!

Anyway back to how I make my puff. First I scoop out some of my Shea Butter Mix then massage it through my hair from root to tip then I sealed it with Africa's Best Herbal oil. If my hair needs to be detangled or picked out I mist my hair with my conditioner mix which is VO5 Passion Fruit smoothie and water with a drop of peppermint oil, just some my hair won't be bone straight when running the comb or pick though. After this I apply IC Fantasia Styling Gel to my edges and use a hard bristle brush to smooth my edges down then I take the leg portion of some used panty hose tie it around my head then tighten as I push the pantyhose toward the back of my head. I hope this made since. Sometimes I add a goody headband over the pantyhose or use a good headband by itself. Then I usually tie my silk scarf over the front of my head to help keep the stray hairs down.

Hair Update (Pictures Only)

So I promised some pictures of my hair after I did the Avacado conditioner treatment. I must state this again because it has to be said. That concoction I made smelled so good. But on to the point of this blog. After I thoroughly rinsed my hair with warm water to make sure all the product was removed from my hair this is what my hair looked like. (Next three pictures)

OMG I am really starting to see some curly hair yeah hair.

I know I'm silly but that is me, I also see that I still have a few of those rogue straight hairs Not stressing about those at the moment, probably gonna give it one more shot at getting them all myself but eventually I know I am going to have to seek proffessional stylist help for a shape up.

The last 2 pictures are of my hair after I applied my shea butter mix and then sealed with Africa's Best Herbal oil Oh yeah this stuff rocks and I think it has pushed my beloved EVCO to the number 2 spot in my carrier oil slot. I am only a few days short of 1 month post BC and I'm not sure I have achieved much growth but I can tell you my hair is healthier.

2nd times a charm- Avocado Conditioning Mix

I woke up today with the sole purpose and that was to do my avocado conditioner treatment. My hair looked a hot mess this morning due to the fact that I skipped my nightly hair regimen. I just tied my hair up with my silk scarf and said to heck with moisturizing and sealing I'm going to be. Well my hair looked fried and dried this morning. So instead of doing this process tonight it had to be done first thing this morning.

Products Used:

  •  Suave Professionals Humectant
  • LS Cholesterol Shea Butter Plus
  • VO5 Moisture Milks- PFS
  • Africa's Best Herbal Oil
  • Pompeian EVOO
  • Peppermint Oil
  • Honey
  • 2 Avocados

After I split the avocados in half and scooped out the insides minus the pit, I placed everything in the blender and set to liquify. I have no set measurements just eyeballed all my ingredients. After blending for a short amount of time this is what I came up with.

This batch definitely turned out better than the first time I attempted to do this. It was thick and creamy and smelled really good unlike the first time when it was extra runny and a weird color.

Don't worry I haven't returned to the creamy crack even though these pictures remind me of my head being covered with relaxer, of course minus that annoying relaxer smell and the burning sensation.

So after applying the avocado mixture to my whole head I massaged it in and then covered my head with a shower cap an a warm towel. Which is still on my head as I type I'm going to leave this mix in for about an hour.

Stay tuned for the results of this
avocado conditioning treatment.

Twistout

So I woke up this morning and took one last look at my hair. I so do love this style but I am getting bored with it and like I said in yesterdays blog today was going to be twistout day.

My hair is looking kind of dry in these pics but in real life it wasn't. I'm starting to see little curlies more and more each day. I can't wait until I wash my hair tomorrow and do the avocado conditioning treatment.

Everyday I learn something new about my hair from dislikes to likes to styles I can and cannot do. I am so loving my natural hair journey. So I know I said I wasn't going to buy any more hair products but I could resist. There is this store near me that sells almost every variety of VO5 and if you go back some blogs you will read about VO5 Moisture Milks Passion Fruit Smoothie. OMG that stuff smells and works wonderful. Any I decided to buy some more of the Passion Fruit Smoothie but this time I also bought the Tea Therapy Clarifying Shampoo- Vanilla Mint Tea, Tea Therapy Nourishing  Conditioner- Calming Chamomile tea, and the Herbal Escapes Moisturizing Conditioner- Free Me Fresia with aloe extract. Each bottle was 99 cent and they smell wonderful, I love when I find great deals. Anyway will definitely do a product review of each of these VO5 items.

Hairstyle coming to an end

Although I'm loving my two strand twists I really miss my hair. I'm actually surprised my hair lasted this long, like I said I have HIMH disease. Anyway I think I'm going to leave the twists in for one more night then undo them for a twist out for a day or so then I am going to do an avocado treatment on my hair. No idea what style I am going to attempt next I might just settle for a simple puff. But then again maybe not because I get really bored with puffs. I mean there is only so much you can do with a puff.
Well here's a last look at my hair because I am definitely going for a twistout in the morning . Oh yeah it is definitely time for a new style. On another note my hair is still really moisturized.

Tales of a product junkie

Okay I admit it, I have always had problems when it comes to BSS (Beauty Supply Stores). I go in with good intentions and come out with more than I intended on getting. I wish I could say since I decided to transition and then ultimately natural my BSS issues have gotten better but unfortunately I believe they have gotten worse.

It started with a need to get some type of moisturizing shampoo and conditioner because my hair is really dry. So I bought some Mane and Tail Shampoo and conditioner because it claimed to moisturize. Well the M&T did exactly what it was supposed to do and my hair felt get but the shampoo contains sulfates which after reading oodles of material on the internet and You Tube videos I have learned sulfates are not good for our hair. So I put the M&T in the graveyard(will discuss this later), Then I heard all these rave reviews about Organix shampoos and conditioners, well I assumed since the name was "Organix" it would be organic and good for you but once again their were those sulfates and cones, and since when does conditioner lather like shampoo at least this was my experience with the Organix products. So you guessed it off to the graveyard it went. So currently I have no shampoo to use because I don't want to use any sulfate containing product. As for conditioner I am currently using Suave Proffessionals Humectant, Regular Suave and VO5 Moisture Milks conditioner. Co-washes are working wonders for me and when I feel the need to deep cleanse my hair I do a Baking Soda/ ACV rinse.

Gels are my second weakness of course the ones that contained alcohol landed in the graveyard but I still have a lot of gel. Let's see my favorite is IC Fantasia, Next is the Ecco Styler Gel with Olive Oil, then ORS Lock and Twist Gel. I have Aloe Vera Gel, Blue Magic Curl Activator Gel and Isoplus Styler Gel. I think that's all of my gels oh I forgot I also have Blue Duchess Gel Activator. I like IC Fantasia to smooth down my edges when I do puffs. I use the ORS Lock and Twist Gel for flat twists and 2 strand twists. The other gels I use to define my curls.

Oils Oils and more Oils........

I'm in love with Extra Virgin Olive Oil Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, and my new found favorite is Africa's Best Herbal Oil, it smells so good. I only have one type of essential oil right now and that is Peppermint oil. I use that mainly in my Shea Butter Mix or when I make a conditioning mix. Oh yeah almost forgot about the latest purchase- Doo Gro Mega Thick Growth Oil (yeah no mineral oil- I'm learning) and Cantu Shea Butter No Drip Hair and Scalp Oil this one does contain mineral oil

Leave Ins..

I only have two different LIC because I usually treat the regular conditioners as a leave in. I have Cantu Shea Butter LIC and Motion Triple Action LIC. Don't really use either because ultimately that is not the only thing I am going to leave in my hair and both causes flakes when mixed with other products.

Miscellaneous Products

Organic Hair Mayo, Lustra Silk Shea Butter and Cholestreol

The Number 1 product I can't and will not live without. 100% Unrefined Shea Butter, I love this stuff it moisturizes, smells good and leaves my hair soft and manageable.  I have discovered different mixes and have come up with two different concoctions both have worked well on my hair and my skin.

Oh I almost forgot my spray bottles currently filled with I have no idea but whatever mixture it is it is still doing the job of moisturizing my hair. I also use honey in most of my mixes because it helps draw the moisture to my hair.

Help me I must be stopped.

Anyone have any suggestions for Shampoos and Conditioners No Sulfates and no 'cones'
